出版記念の原画展にあたり

この展覧会開催と、ほぼ同時期に、原高史作、一大人のための字のない絵本一「階段」が出版されます。この絵本の作家、原高史さんは美術家として多くの、絵画、立体（インスタレーション）、映像など、様々なメディアで作品を世に生み出してきました。そして、それらの全てには、作家の原点とも言える、何らかのストーリー性が感じられます。そんな背景から原高史作、第1回日の絵本が誕生しました。制作当初、多数の原画作品を床に並べ、取捨選択を繰り返しながら、ストーリーを紡ぎ出そうと試みました。その過程で、溢れる作品群の中から、この’’少女と階段”の作品に着日し、根本から発想を変えストーリーの無い絵本として新たなトを切りました。その後、数多くの階段の作品が描かれ、様々なシーンが瞬く間に増えスタートを切りました。その後、数多くの階段の作品が描かれ、様々なシーンが瞬く間に増えてゆきました。この少女は、これまでにも、作家の作品には、頻繁に描かれているモチーフですが、この絵本の中で少女が生き生きと動き出し、階段の上で様々なシーンを演じています。又、ページごとに変化する階段に用いられた色彩と油彩のテクスチャーとのコラボレーションも美しく、何より読者がストーリーを紡ぎ出す、という、ユニークな絵本が誕生しました。この展覧会では、絵本用に描かれた、初期の原画を含む、多数の作品を展示いたします。実際の絵本の中には登場しない作品もご覧いただき、制作の背景を想像して頂きながらお楽しみ下さい。又、本書、「階段」も、書店に並ぶ(4月予定）前に、会場にて先行販売させて頂きます。

On the Occasion of the Original Artwork Exhibition for the Publication Commemoration

Coinciding with this exhibition, the picture book “Kaidan” (meaning “Stairs”), created by Takashi Hara, will be published. This is a wordless picture book intended for adults. Takashi Hara, the artist behind this book, has produced numerous works in various media—including paintings, sculptures (installations), and video art. A common thread running through all his works is a sense of storytelling, which can be considered the foundation of his artistic expression. It is from this background that his first picture book was born.

In the early stages of production, many original drawings were laid out on the floor, and through a process of selection and refinement, an attempt was made to weave a story. During this process, amidst the overflowing collection of works, the focus gradually centered on the theme of “the girl and the stairs.” This shift led to a fundamental change in the approach—rather than creating a traditional picture book with a predetermined story, the decision was made to present it as a storyless picture book.

Following this new direction, numerous stair-themed artworks were created, and a wide variety of scenes quickly emerged. The girl depicted in these works is a recurring motif in Hara’s previous creations. However, in this book, she comes to life, dynamically moving across the stairs and engaging in various scenes. The collaboration between the vibrant colors and the textures of oil paint used on each stairway enhances the book’s visual appeal. Above all, the uniqueness of this picture book lies in the fact that it invites the reader to create their own story as they turn the pages.

This exhibition will showcase numerous works, including the early original drawings created for the book. In addition to the artworks that appear in the final publication, visitors will also have the opportunity to view pieces that were not included, allowing them to imagine the creative process behind the book.

Moreover, “Kaidan” will be available for exclusive pre-sale at the exhibition venue before its official release in bookstores (scheduled for April).
